GERB postpones the submission of its decision for the funds accumulated from MPs' fines to be transferred to the Fund for the Treatment of Children

The Blue Coalition postponed until January the parliamentary submission of its decision for the funds collected from MPs' fines to be transferred every three months to the Fund for the Treatment of Children, stated the Head of GERB's (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) parliamentary group, Krassimir Velchev. He specified that the Blue Coalition's proposal, which was subject to voting in the plenary hall and rejected, will be reviewed in a package of amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly. The Blue Coalition launched its idea for ​​the funds collected from MPs' fines to be allocated for the treatment of children this summer, when the GERB government set a threshold of BGN 180,000 on the treatment cost per child. According to the MPs who submitted the proposal, in this way, each quarter the additional amount of BGN 30-40,000 will be transferred to the Fund.

During the vote in the plenary hall, the proposal was supported by 62 MPs, while 10 MPs opposed it and 65 abstained. The Blue Coalition insisted on a second vote, in which the necessary 50% plus one of the MPs' votes were not collected.

"The Head of the Legal Affairs Committee, Mrs. Fidosova, set the political task for GERB MPs to abstain. However, ten of them voted in favour, while the remaining MPs either opposed it or abstained, commented the MP from the Blue Coalition Vanyo Sharkov. According to him, such a vote is meaningless since the funds accumulated via the collection of fines are in all cases transferred back to the Treasury. Sharkov announced that the proposal will be submitted again next week.

"I voted in favour," admitted Deputy Chairwoman of the Health Care Committee, Daniela Daritkova. The GERB MP explained that her party was not against the proposal in principle but rather had concerns about the procedure amending the Statutes of the National Assembly.
