Rossen Plevneliev: I am troubled by EC comments on an emergency report

I am seriously worried by the comments of the European Commission and its spokesperson, President Rossen Plevneliev said on Thursday about EC's warning of a possible emergency report on Bulgaria in the sphere of justice and internal affairs after yesterday's election for new constitutional judges. "I hope that, from now on, Bulgarian authorities will further intensify their efforts for transparency, so that really worthy candidates are selected as Chief Prosecutors, as well as on the forthcoming elections for chairmen of courts. Bulgarian authorities should take very seriously this warning by the EC, since it is a matter of great importance," President Rossen Plevneliev said after the celebrations in honour of November 1, the Day of Bulgarian Spiritual Leaders.

Earlier, the European Commission's warning that there might be an emergency report on Bulgaria was also commented on by Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov. According to Mladenov, this type of statements by the Commission are inappropriate because they spread rumours among the public. Each institution should adhere to its given powers.
