Top presidential contenders Plevneliev and Kalfin hold their first debate on TV7

The first televised duel between the presidential candidate of GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), Rosen Plevneliev, and his left-wing rival, Ivaylo Kalfin, was held on Tuseday evening with shared dominance and no clear-cut winner.
The “neutral ground” was offered by TV7 and the debate was hosted by TV anchor Nikolay Barekov. The international soccer referee Anton Genov was watching that the set rules are strictly observed. In the hours after the dispute, the social networks and forums of many media were “boiling” with opinions and appraisals, often contrasting.

Despite the expectations that Plevneliev and Kalfin would be opposing their concepts and ideas for the future development of Bulgaria, the two presidential candidates could not escape the two 'standard' topics of opposition between the Bulgarian Socialist Party and GERB: “What have you done over the last two years?” and “What have you done over the last 20 years?”

At the end of the debate, GERB nominee stated: “Mr. Kalfin, you may like to look to the past, but I am looking to the future. I am looking to the seven years ahead of us when Bulgaria will have seven highways and an ultra high-speed connection with Istanbul, so that people from Istanbul can come to ski in Bulgaria.”

Kalfin countered: “There will be no money for highways in the next EU budget period. Will you have enough funds for seven highways, or will you take them again from the pensions of people?”.

The next live debate between the candidates for President will be on bTV, probably on October 15 and will be hosted by Ani Tsolova and Victor Nikolaev.
