Steve Hanke: Bulgaria is doing well in the crisis

Bulgaria is doing great. "It is too early to say what will happen, but Bulgaria is doing a little better than average in a very difficult environment. The percentage of bank money is better compared to other countries," said Steve Hanke, Professor of Applied Economics at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, on Wednesday, during the International Economic Conference Bulgaria and the World in Development.

Earlier that day, Hanke said that the currency board in the country should remain and that there is no reason, at this stage, for the country to seek entrance in the Eurozone.

In the next programming period, Bulgaria will not use less finance than in the current one, but will probably use even more, Minister of EU Funds Management Tomislav Donchev said, Focus News Agency announced.

"We have largely mastered the mechanics of absorbing money," added the Minister.

Bulgaria is close to finishing the third phase of evolution in the absorption of EU funds, which takes into consideration the effects of EU money on the real economy, he added.

Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova said that the chance of success would include more focused strategies, measures and priorities.

"We have great potential and it depends on us to develop it. In Bulgaria, we should have more self-esteem, since there is a good reason why," said Pavlova.
