According to Alma Tour tour operator, the contract with Bulgaria Air Airlines was collaterised with € 650,000

Our contract with Bulgaria Air was collaterised with a bank guarantee of €650,000, announced yesterday for Klassa daily, the owner of Alma Tour tour operator, Lyubomir Pankovski. It was signed between the national air carrier and Alma Tour Fly, one of the 15 companies of the Alma Tour group. The airline, however, argued that it was surprised to hear of a similar amount. Furthermore, even if that were true, the sum is not sufficient to cover the debt. The question is why this guarantee has not been used, commented the Head of the Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents, Donka Sokolova.

It is possible that the amount guarantees only outbound flights of Bulgarian citizens but not incoming ones, said experts to Klassa daily. According to Pankovski, however, the contract concluded between the Alma Tour Flight and Bulgaria Air dates back to last year and it was applied in our country for the first time. He was explicit that the document was backed financially.
The scandal between Bulgaria Air and Alma Tour broke out on Friday when the airline cancelled the flights to Russia and Finland due to unsettled accounts with the tour operator.

The GERB government involved three ministries in finding a solution to the case - the Ministries of Transport, of Economy, Energy and Tourism, and of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov thinks that if an agreement is not reached between the two companies, this could entail the revocation of licences for providing air travel services and tourism activity. On the Russian side, the Vice Chairman of the Russian Federal Tourism Agency Grigoriy Sarishvili arrived in Bulgaria. Ivo Marinov, Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism said on BNR (Bulgarian National Radio) that the crisis might affect seriously the image of Bulgaria as a tourist destination. The crisis became the occasion for holding discussions on the setting up of a guarantee fund for covering damages incurred from such incidents.
