Dimitar Glavchev: Legislative changes will solve the problem with the construction at the Black Sea

- Mr. Glavchev what will be achieved with the examination of all deals since 2003 up to now, which are similar to that of the sand dunes in Nessebar?
- Encroachment on the Bulgarian nature has to stop and this is one of the ways - all transactions since 2003 should be checked. The public needs to know who and when started this type of deals and whether there is a conflict of interest. Currently, we have started and stopped procedures, but checks are yet to be made. All facts should be brought to light.

- How will illegal construction in the country actually be stopped?
- The problem is long standing and needs to be addressed via legislative changes. It will not be easy, since several laws have to be changed. More importantly, the problem of illegal construction should be solved in principle, and not be used for political quarrels.

- Environmentalists have been protesting for a long time, why no measures have been taken so far?
- Society expects a quick response to this problem, but its solution takes time. Environmentalists today have free access to the Prime Minister, they are being talked to, they take part in cooperative discussions and their views are being taken into account. This fact should be taken into account because it was not always so. The political will of the government in terms of combating corruption was shown and this was also noted in the latest progress report under the internal mechanism for monitoring and control of the European Commission for Bulgaria. The rest is work.

- Six months before the elections, how these scandals will affect public opinion?
- Depending on how they will be addressed. The genesis of the problem should be traced back first and after that we should try to find ways to solve it. People can see for themselves how this sort of problems were solved before and how they are solved today.

- What do you think of the proposal by environmentalists for the Black Sea to be declared a National Park?
- I strongly support the idea, but I'm afraid that it comes a bit late. Nature is one of the biggest Bulgarian values and efforts to protect it must be shared.
