Bulgaria ranks among the top 50 global gold reserve holders

Bulgaria retains the 48th position in the Global Gold Reserves Holders Ranking, showed recent data of the World Gold Council for January, quoted by profit.bg.

Our country has 39.9 tonnes of the precious metal, accounting for 11.3% of the reserves, or 0.1 percentage points more than the previous month.
At the end of last year, Bulgaria stepped down one place in the ranking, after occupying the 47th position in October with 39.9 tonnes of gold, which accounted for 11.2% of the country’s reserves.

Ahead of Bulgaria is Bolivia with 42.3 tonnes of gold and behind our country are the West African Economic and Monetary Union with 36.5 tonnes and Malaysia, occupying the 50th place with 36.4 tonnes.

The United States has the largest gold reserves, amounting to 8,133.5 tonnes, accounting for 76.1% of its total reserves. Germany ranks second with 3,391 tonnes, accounting for 73.2% of its reserves. The top three list is completed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with 2,814 tonnes of gold. Italy ranks fourth with 2,451.8 tonnes and France is fifth with 2,435.4 tonnes, followed by China with 1,054.1 tonnes, Switzerland is seventh with 1,040.1 tonnes. The other three countries in the global top ten are: Russia with 937.8 tonnes of gold, Japan with 765.2 tonnes and the Netherlands with 612.5 tonnes.

The share of gold reserves as a percentage of total reserves, is the smallest in China - 1.7%. At the opposite pole is Portugal, whose gold reserves account for over 90% of its total reserves. It ranks 14th with 382.5 tons.

Gold reserves represent a very large share of the total reserves of Greece - 82.6%. The country ranks 32nd in the world with 111.9 tonnes of gold.
