Parliament condemns the attack against Dogan in a written declaration

At the second attempt, the Bulgarian Parliament adopted a declaration condemning the attack against Ahmed Dogan during MRF's conference at the National Palace of Culture (NPC). Last week, lawmakers failed to agree on such a document.

"We call on all political parties, public organisations, as well as all Bulgarian citizens, to distance themselves from this unprecedented act of political interference," read the adopted declaration which was prepared by MRF. It was adopted with 92 votes "for", five "against", and three "abstentions". A total of 52 deputies of GERB, 17 of BSP and 22 of MRF voted in support of the declaration.

Lawmakers of the Blue Coalition did not participate in the vote, and Ataka's MPs announced that they will vote "against" and they did so. However, in a speech from the platform, Professor Stanislav Stanilov said, on behalf of the party, that Ataka does not approve of the act of aiming a gun at the head of a political leader, even if these are political opponents.

Professor Stanilov however, did not agree that attempts are being made to turn attacker Oktay Enimehmedov into a hero.

The declaration adopted includes a special text, which condemns any attempts to turn attacker Oktay Enimehmedov into a hero, as well as belittling the act he committed.

We call on the entire Bulgarian society to show a tolerant and responsible behaviour in order to preserve civil peace as the greatest achievement of the Bulgarian democracy, the declaration added.
