The court in Belgrade authorizes extradition of banker Tsvetan Vassilev

The court in Belgrade, Serbia has allowed the extradition of Bulgarian businessman Tsvetan Vassilev. According to information from the BNT, Vassilev and his defense will appeal this decision to the next instance. Two years ago the fourth largest bank in Bulgaria – the Corporate Commercial Bank (CCB) belonging to Tsvetan Vassilev, was closed down and then proclaimed bankrupt. At that point the Central Bank and the Prosecution Office accused Vassilev of having drained the bank, being its major shareholder. He was also accused of having granted credits to companies, especially his own, and to physical persons – relatives and friends mainly, yet without the necessary guarantees with the clear knowledge that this money would never be paid back. Investigation made it clear that the sum missing from the bank amounts to over EUR 2 billion. Tsvetan Vassilev has been on the territory of Serbia since September 2014.
