Georgi Dimov: Ankara’s actions as regards suspension of refugee readmission message to EU through Bulgaria

Former consul general of Bulgaria in Edirne Georgi Dimov spoke for Radio FOCUS on Thursday.
Ankara’s actions as regards the suspension of refugee readmission are a message to the EU through Bulgaria, according to Dimov.
In his words, they are dictated by the fact the visa regime for Turkish citizens will probably not be eased as of July 1 as Turkey has not met the criteria for that.
“However, Bulgaria will suffer owing to that,” the former consul general noted.
He also saw an attempt at starting an intrigue between Bulgaria, Turkey, and Romania in the situation.
“Bulgaria as a country should not allow to be drawn into the bitter conflicts in Turkey,” Dimov stressed.
According to him, if there is any misunderstanding, it should be corrected and messages to the EU should not be sent through Bulgaria and at the expense of Bulgaria.
