Expert Mihail Konstantinov: Bulgarian PM will not have to hand in his resignation despite his threat

“Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will not have to hand in his resignation despite the threat he made saying that he would resign if his party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) lost the presidential elections in the first round.”
This is what Professor Mihail Konstantinov, mathematician and expert in elections law, said speaking for the morning programme of Radio FOCUS.
In his words, none of the candidates for president will achieve a landslide victory in the first round. According to him, the run-off will be between the candidates of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).
“This is the political logic and this is what we have witnessed at all five presidential elections held so far with only one exception. In 2006 the rightist powers did not approach the presidential polls seriously and they failed to push their candidate to the run-off.
Currently, the political logic says that General Rumen Radev, the president candidate nominated by the BSP, will have to enter the run-off. There are many candidates nominated in the left wing but, according to the sociologists, they do not have serious chances,” Professor Konstantinov commented further.
The expert also pointed out that the mandate-holder CEDB was interested in calling snap elections, in contrast to the small parties.
In his words, the leftists should not be underestimated at the forthcoming elections.
