Expert Mihail Konstantinov: Bulgaria never stood a chance of winning UN Secretary-General post

“Bulgaria never stood a chance of winning the UN Secretary-General post.”
This is what Mihail Konstantinov, mathematician and expert in elections law, said speaking for Radio FOCUS, commenting on the official nomination of António Guterres for UN chief and the performance of the Bulgarian candidates for the post during the job competition.
In his words, Bulgaria was misled both by Germany and the leadership of the European People’s Party (EPP).
“European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are directly responsible for Bulgaria’s rambling. Bulgaria, on the other hand, should not have tried to please everyone.
The outcome was decided by the countries that have the right of a veto and our two candidates received vetoes twice. So, it does not matter who voted how. When there is a veto, even a single one, the candidate drops out,” Professor Konstantinov remarked.
