Some governments’ proposals at the WCIT pose a threat to the internet’s openness

In December, the world’s governments will convene for the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT), a meeting hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a UN agency. Some governments' proposals at the WCIT pose a threat to the internet's openness and the exercise of human rights online. We need to work together now to ensure that such proposals concerning the internet are rejected in Dubai. The shroud of secrecy surrounding the conference makes the outcome unpredictable and is indicative of why the WCIT presents a significant threat to the internet. The danger of allowing governments to make decisions about the internet behind closed doors with no transparency or accountability is simply too great.
