BNB: The number of borrowers with loans of over BGN 1 mln is declining

The number of people and businesses, who had withdrawn loans of over BGN 1 mln, decreased by 34 on an annual basis at the end of the first quarter of the year, showed data of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB). The firms and households, which had borrowed loans of seven-digit amounts, at the end of March were 5,185, while in the previous year they were 5,219. The individuals, who had received loans of over BGN 1 mln decreased by 6 to 113 persons.

The seven-digit loans, borrowed by households, amounted to BGN 205.8 mln, or BGN 1.82 mln on average. Although the number of borrowers declined, the extended loans recorded a minimal growth. The millionaires increased by one person, compared to December, but the total amount of borrowed loans was up by over BGN 10 mln.

The experts from the Central Bank reported that the number of companies with liabilities of over BGN 1 mln was 5,072, or by 28 less than the figure for the end of March 2010. Although fewer in number, corporate borrowers received a larger volume of funds - they increased by BGN 1.12 bn on an annual basis to reach BGN 23.09 bn at the end of March.

It turns out that businesses and individuals are managing loans amounting to BGN 23.3 bn, which is more than 46% of the total amount of loans granted by banks in the country. The BNB statistics shows that the amount of loans of over BGN 1 mln, borrowed by companies and individuals by the end of September, was  BGN 4.49 mln. on the average

BNB experts reported just an opposite trend in deposits over the first quarter of the year. At the end of March, the deposits of over BGN 1 mln in banks in the country were 2,251, or by 111 more than in the same period of 2010. Some 479 of the deposits were made by individuals and a total of 1,772 - by companies. The number of household deposits of more than BGN 1 mln increased by 84, and these of firms by 27 on an annual basis.
