Bonuses of BGN 1 mln in Kaolin JSC

The members of the managerial team of Kaolin JSC distributed generous bonuses to themselves in the last two years, the website BNews posted on Sunday. The entire investigation of TV7 will be broadcast on Monday, July 16, in “Hot Spot”, hosted by TV anchor Nikolay Barekov. It reveals that the heads of Kaolin JSC received BGN 1 mln in bonuses.

According to another investigation of TV7, the company Kaolin, whose majority owner is the notorious businessman Ivo Prokopiev, supplies expensive limestone to the private thermal power plants of the Maritsa Iztok complex. According to Emil Georgiev, Chairman of Political Club Ecoglasnost, the company used to deceive the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism in its reports that the limestone was sold at different prices to the private and state-owned power stations in the region, which resulted in hidden profits of BGN 20 mln per annum for Prokopiev.

According to Georgiev, the reports also concealed certain quantities from the output, mined from the deposit in the village of Velikan, Haskovo district, because otherwise it would have already been exhausted. The company carries out this activity also in violation of the law because it has not applied for changing the designation of the land, on which it is located. It still figures as farm land, but blasting operations are carried out on the territory of Velikan, without which the limestone cannot be produced. The result is contamination of the land and mineral water in the region of the Merichleri spring with excessive amounts of arsenic.

In the course of its investigation, TV7 also revealed that at the time when the most recent concession for extraction of limestone was granted, the former Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, under whose management the mineral resources in the country are, held shares in Kaolin JSC, which is a conflict of interest.
