Boyko Borissov: The minimum wage will become BGN 270

“The Government has initiated a procedure for an increase in the minimum wage,” said yesterday Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the town of Aksakovo, Varna region. The increase will be of BGN 40 - from BGN 230 to BGN 270, and according to Borissov the reason for the change is the higher amount of revenues in the Treasury. The Prime Minister announced that the increase in earnings would cost some BGN 20 mln to the State. “Within 10 days, we will decide on the percentage by which the pensions will be raised”. The PM explained that the rise in the pensions would be permanent and it would not be just a single increase before the elections. Borissov clearly stated that this was not a populist measure. The percentage of the increase is not yet clear because the respective estimates have not been completed.

Asked about the presidential elections, the Prime Minister again said that he was not interested in them until September. Borissov said that he would dismiss the Executive Director of the National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture - Varna because of violations. "Until we find honest people willing to work conscientiously, we will make changes in the head positions in the country," stated the Prime Minister and added that he had ordered Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov to prepare the resignation today and to sign it. Naydenov himself announced that he had talked with the Director of the Executive Agency and that he had already resigned.

Borissov commented on the construction of theTrakia Highway, stating that after its launch a video surveillance system would be used for traffic control and the intervention of the traffic officers would be limited. He said that in this way the subjective factor would be avoided.
