Borissov to announce the presidential candidate of GERB on September 4

“I will announce the candidate nominated by GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) to run for President on September 4,” stated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the launching of the reconstructed Pernik-Breznik road section yesterday.

Some time later, Deputy Prime Minister Tsvetanov added that "the profile of GERB’s presidential candidate is that of a Bulgarian citizen of over 40 years of age." According to the Minister of Interior and Head of the party’s election headquarters, the nomination of GERB is a famous personality and there is sufficient time for him to be attacked. Asked whether the name of the former President Petar Stoyanov had been discussed, Tsvetanov said: "No" and added that this was an "imaginary rumour”.

Boyko Borissov made the statement about the candidate of the ruling party after the opening of two reconstructed sections with a total length of 17 km, from the town of Pernik to the town of Breznik (12 km) and between the village of Ovchartsi and the town of Sapareva Banya (5 km). The project's value amounts to BGN 12 mln and the money was allocated under Operational Programme Regional Development. The reconstruction works were carried out in 8 months and the operational guarantee of the road sections is 5 years. “At a time of severe economic crisis, we are opening reconstructed roads and kindergartens every day," said Prime Minister Borissov. He commented that nobody pays attention what party mayors are from but the State tries to subsidise them as best it can. The reconstruction of the theatre in the town of Pernik is planned to start in September. The amount of BGN 800,000 needed for the repair of the building was allocated from the State budget last month.

"The requested vote of no confidence is great insolence on the part of BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) and MRF (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), knowing their potential," stated Prime Minister Borissov. He said that he will not allow GERB to participate in a coalition with BSP, MRF and the Blue Coalition if it has to form a new Government.
