Sergey Ignatov announces the setting up of an e-highway

We must set up an e-highway, announced yesterday the Minister of Education, Sergei Ignatov at the Sofia's 134th High School "Dimcho Debelyanov", where he attended the opening ceremony of the new school year. According to his statement, the GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) government had made the commitment to the end of its mandate to introduce the Bulgarian e-government as well as the electronisation of the entire educational process. The National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategy for Schools was suspended temporarily because of the implementation of audits and now will be resumed, explained the Minister. For the first time this year, e-textbooks will be used. Their first version involves a total of 45 titles, ranging from ABC books for the smallest school kids, to the language textbooks for the eighth graders. In 2020, there will be no difference in Bulgaria between the on-campus and online training. Besides, the parents and their childrenwill be able in case of illness to familiarise themselves with the missed lessons in the Internet global network, said Sergey Ignatov. The date for the beginning of the school year will be included in the new Law on Pre-school and School Education, added he. The draft bill was expected to be submitted for discussion to the National Assembly by December.

At the opening of the school year in the ''IvanVazov'' High School located in the city of Blagoevgrad, the President Georgi Parvanov compared the magnitude of the celebrations on September 15 with those held on May 24 and November 1 in the Bulgarian holiday calendar. In his words, the opening of the school year can easily be ranked next to the celebration on the Day of Slavic Literacy and Bulgarian Culture and on the Day of the Bulgarian National Revival Leaders. In his speech, the Head of State emphasised that knowledge could gives us power stronger then that of the sword and gun. This fact was realised even by our ancestors during the most severe Ottoman bondage, when they sacrificed everything to educate their children.
