Technology Innovation Centres to be set up

The Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism will propose to the GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party) government and our EU partners to launch the setting up of three technological centres, which must concentrate in one location the best achievements of various sectors involving universities, BAS ((Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, said Deputy Economy Minister, Evgeny Angelov at the conference "The Role of Universities: Users or Sources of Innovation."

The process of the establishment of Technology Innovation Centres (TICs) must begin and we are eager to take the first step by the end of this year, stated Angelov. According to him, the aim is to set up several technological centres, which may be associated with medicine or pharmacy, with computer technology or with electrical engineering and electronics. ''By the late summer or early autumn, we will propose concepts for the development of TICs which will be discussed and approved in order to make possible the financing of innovation centres by early 2012. For this type of activity and investment in innovation, venture capital funding is needed, including private sources of financing,'' stated the Deputy Economy Minister.
