Application form for Struma motorway to be submitted by October

“The application forms for the Struma motorway should be prepared as soon as possible so as to get EU financing more quickly and not have to spend budget money. We will do everything possible for this to happen by the end of the month,” said Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Liliana Pavlova, who was nominated today to replace Rosen Plevneliev

At today’s Council of Ministers meeting Plevneliev handed his resignation in order to embark on the presidential campaign as GERB’s contender for the position of Head of State. Only a day earlier, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank submitted the final version of the application form for Lots 1, 2 and 4 of the Maritsa motorway, which was interpreted by Plevneliev as a clear sign of a job well done.

The last item discussed by the Cabinet today has to do with the Struma motorway. A decision was made to finance the expropriation procedures necessary for the construction of Lot 1 of the highway.

“Ms Pavlova is highly qualified, she has the necessary qualities and logically rises to the next level,” said PM Boyko Borissov. “In the present situation, Plevneliev has no right to think of going back. You should destroy the bridge behind you in order to make sure that there is only one way to forward. Otherwise, you will always hesitate,” that is how PM Borissov explained Rosen Plevneliev’s decision to resign from his ministerial post. The Prime Minister added that he was no longer looking for a third deputy prime minister because Deputy Prime Minister Simeon Djankov had made great progress in his work.
