A total of 70 charter flights not finaced by Alma Tour-BG JSC. Over 200 foreign tourists remain stranded

Dozens of charter flights not financed by Alma Tour-BG JSC from the beginning of the season resulted on Friday in about 800 foreign tourists being stranded in Bulgaria. According to Klassa daily information, it comes down to some 70 flights unpaid by the Alma Tour tour operator to the Bulgaria Air national air carrier. The airline failed to announce the exact number of the flights but it confirmed that the problem had been there since the beginning of the tourist season.

On Friday, the airline cancelled the charter flights of the tour operator due to the accumulated debt of BGN 7 mln. Bulgaria Air commented that it had hoped that, because of their longstanding partnership with Alma Tour, a solution to the conflict would be reached. The representatives of the air carrier explained that it will start legal proceedings against the tour operator.

Alma Tour announced that they will begin negotiations. Besides, they had proposed several options for the solution of the conflict. Hours later, however, the airline denied that talks are being held at all. On Friday and Saturday, no compromise was reached, specified to Klassa daily, Antonia Atanassova, Press Officer of the air carrier. If Alma Tour is holding any negotiations, they are not with our representatives, said she.

Ultimately, Bulgaria Air resumed its flights to Vilnius, Tallinn, Moscow and St. Petersburg, but today more than 200 tourists with flight cancellations remain stranded in our country. On the day of the flight (Sunday), there were neither tourists at the airport, nor representatives of Alma Tour, retorted Bulgaria Air. According to Atanassova, so far, several disbursement plans have been repeatedly signed by Alma Tour, but none has been implemented.

Branch specialists commented that the situation set a precedent. On the one hand, the question is why the tour operator is indebted with such large amounts, while on the other hand- why has the airline not made a decision on the case earlier.
