Municipalities to be granted a total of BGN 78,233,200 under the Social Inclusion Project

Municipalities will be granted BGN 78,233,200 under a Social Inclusion Project, became known yesterday. Its implementation is expected to lead to improved school readiness of children up to the age of 7 from vulnerable social groups and to levelling their chances of becoming first graders. The initiative will be funded by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Services financed under the project include the integration of children in kindergartens and pre-school groups, the creation of places in nursery schools, as well as monitoring the kids' readiness for training, and the setting up of summer schools and groups before entering first grade. Furthermore, within the initiative framework, children's medical consultation has been provided for, as well as the reduction of nursery fees, early intervention for children with disabilities and their families, family planning activities and the establishment of family centres for children up to 3 and 7 years of age. A part of the funds will cover the necessary building repairs and the supply of necessary equipment. Special attention will be paid to work with parents through family counselling, group and individual training for skills needed for raising kids and taking care of them. It is envisaged for municipalities to be the leading factor in the provision of these services since they will be the active supplier.

So far, financing agreements worth around BGN 56 mln have been signed with 56 municipalities, out of which BGN 27 mln are intended for the provision of social services, BGN 21 mln for building repairs and BGN 3 mln for the supply of furniture and equipment.
