Plevneliev or Kalfin to be President according to preliminary surveys

Rosen Plevneliev or Ivaylo Kalfin will be the next President of Bulgaria according to preliminary surveys as of 20.00 hrs last night.

The candidates of the ruling party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), Rosen Plevneliev and Margarita Popova, won about 40% of the votes of the Bulgarian electorate. Their left-wing contenders, Ivaylo Kalfin and Stefan Danailov, won about 10% less votes, remaining second with some 30% of the ballots. Meglena Kuneva and Lyubomir Hristov are third with about 14%. Preliminary surveys showed a fiasco for the Blue Coalition whose candidates Rumen Hristov and Emanuil Yordanov won only 2%. A serious decline in the support for the extreme nationalist Volen Siderov was also registered at the elections.
