New battle between the mobile operators, the price per minute falls to BGN 0.12

A new front in the war for customers between the mobile operators opened yesterday after the M-Tel company challenged its competitors by launching the new bob brand. This is a simplified tariff for speaking without a monthly fee, without the need of a long-term contract and with a charge of BGN 0.12 per minute conversation or a short text message, which is twice lower than the average prices currently. A total of 55 new retail stores in 40 Bulgarian cities will market the new brand, but the package can be ordered by phone as well, explained officials from the M-Tel company. The attractive offer was announced just a few months before the Communications Regulation Commission’s schedule for gradual reduction of prices for wholesale termination to enter into force as of January 1, 2012.

The other two major telecom operators - Globul and Vivacom, also promised lower prices. Officials from Vivacom gave an example with the prices of calls from stationary to mobile phones that would decrease almost twice. Sales agents from Globul claimed that the retail tariffs at present were among the lowest in the European Union and this trend would continue. It should be borne in mind that according to Chairman of the Bulgarian Commission for Communications Regulation Veselin Bozhkov, mobile services will become cheaper by 25-40% next year as a result of the activity of the regulator. All the three companies, however, agreed: "The price decrease is mainly due to normal market processes, not to the decline in the tariffs for wholesale termination."
