Boyko Borissov: There is 0.001% probability for me to run for President

There is 0.001% probability for me to run for President. This is how Prime Minister Boyko Borissov answered yesterday in the Hague the question whether he intended to participate in the elections for Head of State, announced Darik Radio.

I have estimated 0.001 % simply as a normal probability with the idea of showing respect to the decision of the GERB party which also, in the first place, of course, nominated me. It is normal for a given party first to nominate its leader, right?," commented Borissov. The PM also added that if in the autumn the GERB government reported no stable results, he himself would propose the holding of early elections.

Boyko Borissov also indicated the successful compliance with a number of EU criteria and the requirements met by Bulgaria for its Schengen accession.

The PM retorted that he did not read Wikileaks reports but, nevertheless, described as political speculations the information released via the diplomatic cable dated 2006 posted on the "Bivol'' (Buffalo) independent investigative journalism website. The report of the former US Ambassador to Bulgaria, John Beyrle, was entirely focused on the then Sofia mayor and recent Bulgarian Prime Minister. The PM announced that yesterday morning he held talks with the current American Ambassador, James Warlick, who claimed that the Wikileaks website referred to vague and unconfirmed sources and it was pointless to comment its publications.

"From what I have learned so far, Wikileaks has not posted anything decent about anyone. It even publishes what is released by the yellow press or the comments of various parties," emphasised also Borissov concerning Wikileaks. The Prime Minister refuted John Beyrle's allegations in the quoted diplomatic cable that he was maintaining close relations with the oil company Lukoil and the Russian Embassy, as well as the assertion that he was involved in amphetamine smuggling schemes.

Yesterday, the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, also issued its official standpoint on the classified report.
"The diplomatic cables are often preliminary and incomplete foreign policy analyses and should not be considered as official positions of U.S. Foreign Policy," stated the announcement.

"US- Bulgarian relations are based on mutual respect, joint objectives and common values. Our bilateral relations and collaboration have never been stronger."
