BSP and the Blue Coalition will not support the 2012 budget

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Blue Coalition will not support the 2012 budget, was reported yesterday.

"The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) will not support the state budget for next year and the budgets of the National Social Security Institute and the National Health Insurance Fund," said yesterday UDF leader Martin Dimitrov after the regular meeting of the party’s National Executive Council. “The biggest problem of the Government and the budget is the lack of measures and policies aimed at boosting economic growth,” he said. According to him, this statement should not be regarded as personal criticism against Simeon Djankov. He said that it would be good for the financial stability of the country if Borissov were to keep Djankov as Minister of Finance.

“Stability and fiscal rules are important but the Government does not have a plan how to deal with poverty in the country,” added Martin Dimitrov. According to him, GDP growth could result from the greater flow of Foreign Direct Investments, and the accelerated and efficient absorption of EU funds. "We have doubts whether this administration will be able to implement the appropriate policies in order for this to happen," said the leader of the UDF.

In practice, the position of UDF was in line with the refusal of Ivan Kostov to support the 2012 budget last week. "This is a budget of the movement along the line of least resistance. The budgets in the last ten years were similar. Nobody wants to make an effort, nobody can get anything done and no one is interested in making decisions. This is just something not worth supporting any more," said the leader of DSB last week.

Budget 2012 will not be supported by BSP, stated MP from BSP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Labour and Social Policy Committee Dragomir Stoinev. “For the first time, the social rights of mothers, pensioners and disabled people are taken away with this budget. No social strata will benefit from this budget," added he.
