PM Boyko Borissov: Everyone should pay their own social security contributions

PM Boyko Borissov supported the idea of the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) that public servants should pay their social security contributions themselves. “Policemen, military personnel and some of the administrative officials do not pay their social security contributions and this create a gap in the budget of the National Social Security Institute (NSSI). Then we take money from people’s taxes and transfer it to NSSI. Everyone must pay their own social security contributions and taxes. If this results in lower wages, it can be compensated via a wage increase by the amount which the State pays in social security contributions,” PM Borissov said today after opening officially a renovated department of St. Anna Hospital in Sofia.

The Prime Minister added that he had asked an expert panel to consider a package of measures connected with early retirement and the reduction of the number of disability pensions. “Specific measures will be taken in the next few months, after consultations with the trade unions, members of GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) and MPs, and these will be made public,” added PM Borissov. He stated as well that the privileges of employees retiring early from the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Defence will be linked to the particular position occupied by the respective employee. “A 41-year-old pilot retires at an age when adrenaline is still in his blood,” commented PM Borissov.

The Prime Minister also voiced his stance on the national protest planned by the syndicates for tomorrow. “The national protest is for everyone who wants to protest. I protest against the fact that they did not protest when they should have. I would gladly go out and protest against those who left me billions of debt which I have to repay now,” concluded PM Borissov.
