The National Road Infrastructure Agency to sue NEK for BGN 200 000 because of a poorly maintained road section

The National Road Infrastructure Agency (NRIA) will bring a suit against NEK (National Electric Company) for recoverng the costs of the winter cleaning of the road passing around the Tsankov Kamak Dam, stated yesterday before Klassa daily Lazar Lazarov, Head of the Agency. According to him, the legal claim will be for refunding about BGN 200,000, because in 2010 and 2011 NRIA spent overall BGN 100,000 each year for the road maintenance.

The facility is the most direct route between the town of Devin and the Trakia motorway, while the construction of the 22-km long section costs BGN 222 mln. The road section was constructed on the mountain ridge, because the old road was flooded by the Tsankov Kamak Dam. Lazarov explained that the Electric Company has first to comply with 15 negative remarks on the poor quality of the cost-ineffective road in order for NRIA to approve the state of the road stretch. Currently, the road is collapsing because of the existing landslides and the lack of drainage channel system.

The GERB government decided yesterday that the section of the South Stream pipeline, which will pass through our territory, should be declared a property of national importance. Ministers also adopted a national emergency plan to combat harmful oil spills at sea. The representatives of the Russian company Transneft, in their turn, stated that they were optimistic about the completion of the construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline following the adoption of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the project by the Ministry of Environment and Water. Bulgaria still owes Russia a total of BGN 6.2 mln under this agreement.
