Nikolina Nikolova will head the national Strategic Infrastructure Projects company

Nikolina Nikolova, Member of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency, will head the national Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIP) company, told Klassa Rosen Plevneliev, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. SIP will be in charge of building the motorways Struma, Hemus and Cherno More, and its operational staff of 20 experts, is going to be selected by competitions in mid-July.

The Government took the decision for the establishment of a second company, which will deal with infrastructure projects, in January 2011. The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works said then that an overlapping in the functions of the Road Infrastructure Agency and the new company would not be possible.

By 2012, the state-owned company will become a beneficiary under the Operational Programme Transport and will be financed from EU funds. According to estimates of Plevneliev, in the period 2014 to 2020, Bulgaria will need some €5.5 to 6 bn in order to achieve the middle European level of road infrastructure.
