Georgi Parvanov: Why does not a new, young person head BSP?

“Why does not a new, young person head the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)?,” President Georgi Parvanov said on bTV while commenting on the leadership position in the Socialist Party, which will probably be tabled at BSP’s Congress in May. Parvanov said he will stay in politics because that is what he is good at. He added that he could join any organisation of the Socialist Party and get to work.

Parvanov added that it’s far more important to use his capacity of creating ideas. “I can also be useful in the opening of the left wing since the recent elections showed that BSP is more isolated and self-isolated than ever,” stressed the Head of State. He added that he had never placed his candidacy – either to head BSP or as President – and his nomination was a result of difficult, dramatic moments.

In the course of the conversation, the President pointed to the symbiotic relationship between the yellow media and politics as harmful to the latter. He described Boyko Borissov as a weak Prime Minister and said that the media had played a significant role for increasing his popularity.

Parvanov appraised Sergey Stanishev’s appointment to head PES as a very high recognition.
