The maximum speed on motorways to be increased to 140 km/h

The maximum speed on motorways will be 140 km/h and the one on speed roads - 120 km/h, stipulate changes in the Road Traffic Act, suggested by the Cabinet, announced officials from the Government’s press office. The amendments provide for the imposition of a ban on the construction of advertising facilities within the road bed and in the service area of highways and high-speed roads. The construction and operation of billboards at a distance of less than 8 meter will be prohibited along the first, second and third class roads and others not included in the previously mentioned. Only construction and operation of commercial complexes and road links to them will be allowed on highways and high-speed roads, but at least 3 km before and after road junctions.

On their regular meeting, the ministers decided to exclude property from the forest fund and to shift the route of the Devin - Mihalkovo road. The total land area is 210,734 decares, and it is owned by the State and by the National Electricity Company (NEK). NEK will pay the amount of BGN 667, 404 for the change of the land purpose, and the total of BGN 176,065 for compensatory forestation, which will be remitted to the Executive Forest Agency. The route change is needed because of the activation of landslides. The same section was built for about €120 mln. For comparison, Alpine Bau suggested a price of about €40 mln during the term of office of the Tripartite Coalition.
