Households to be able to apply for energy efficiency measures in multi-family buildings during the summer

Bulgarian households will be able to submit applications for financing of energy efficiency measures in multi-family residential buildings during the summer, stated Nikolay Nankov, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, at the opening of the international exhibition Bulgarian Building Week. Only registered homeowners associations managing the real estate, known also as condominium association, can apply for the programme. For the purpose of improving the energy efficiency of dwellings, the state allocates overall BGN 63 mln under Operational Programme Regional Development for this programming period by the end of 2013.

The actual implementation of the projects will not start until the early winter, when the construction season ends. Before the launch of the projects implementation, energy audits should be draw out, as well as construction standpoints on the actual condition of the buildings and works design projects. The cost of all these analysis will be completely covered by the EU funds. Thus, 50 percent of the value of the specific construction activities and design projects will be at the expense of the co-owners.

Currently, we are working on the selection of a department, which will assist the Housing Policy Directorate with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works in its activities under this scheme. On January 31, the application form for the energy efficiency programme was lodged by the Directorate to the Мanaging Authority of the programme. "Within a month, we expect for the project and the application form to be approved," stated Nankov.
