The Bulgarian President to support the reform of the judicial system
Bulgaria's long-term objective should be the repeal of the EU mechanism for monitoring of our judicial system which means that we must reform this system, stated Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev before reporters yesterday after participating in a meeting of the Defence Council."I am worried by the fact that Bulgaria considers its progress only on the basis of each consecutive EU assessment report. These reports are actually issued by Brussels to indicate whether we are advancing," added he.
The Head of State announced that he had planned a series of meetings on that issue. "I have already talked with the Minister of Justice and with the Chief Prosecutor, who will prepare specific action plans in order for Bulgaria to achieve its long-term objective," highlighted Plevneliev.
"I will organise these discussion meetings for the purpose of drafting an efficient action plan on completion of the reforms in late 2013 in order for Bulgaria to leave with dignity this monitoring mechanism," stated the President. He added that his goal was not to provoke explanations or to accuse anyone.
After the Defence Council, Rosen Plevneliev commented on the current situation of the Bulgarian army. ''We have reviewed the situation of the Bulgarian army for 2011. The reform continues, it covers all the armed forces and we have already targeted the introduction of specific measures, stated the Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. According to Plevneliev, the Ministry of Defence is among the first institutions that have set a long-term strategy until 2020, as well as a plan for the development of the Bulgarian Armed Forces until 2014, while following them consistently.
"I am yet to negotiate with many other institutions the introduction of reforms in the way they have been implemented successfully by the Ministry of Defence,'' indicated Plevneliev.
''The Presidency and the Ministry of Defence will collaborate and negotiate on common priorities thus formulating a clear vision of what should be achieved in 2012. The objectives will be clearly defined," stated also the Head of State.
