The Head of NHIF denies receiving a BGN 30, 000 bonus for 2011

The Head of the National Health Insurance Fund, Nelly Nesheva, received a bonus of over BGN 30, 000 for last year, while NHIF Deputy Head Mariyana Vassileva was granted some BGN 22, 000, announced yesterday in Parliament the MP from the Blue Coalition, Dimo Gyaurov.

According to Gyaurov, the NHIF Head has calculated that she and her deputy should receive 1. 5% of the funds collected from imposed fines and penalties over the last year, which amount to the total value of BGN 2, 011, 315. Some 60% of this share should be given to Doctor Nelly Nesheva and 40% - to Associate Professor Maryiana Vassileva.

A little later, the NHIF officially refuted this claim.

The allegations of granting an additional remuneration of BGN 30, 000 to the the Head of NHIF do not correspond to the truth. Since her appointment as an NHIF Head in 2010, Doctor Nesheva has repeatedly expressed her standpoint on that issue and proposed these additional bonuses, regulated by the Health Insurance Act, to be repealed, announced the NHIF.

Nesheva even received criticism on that matter from trade unions and individual members of the UDF (Union of Democratic Forces), who wanted to know why the NHIF did not allocate additional financial incentives to its employees for the entire 2010, specified the press office of the Institution.

The NHIF, however, acknowledged that all its 2,700 employees recieved remunerations pursuant to Article 108, Paragraph 3 of the Health Insurance Act. It stipulates that up to 25% of the sums collected from fines, penalties and amounts refunded by medical aid providers can be allocated under a financial scheme approved by the trade unions. Ultimately, the NHIF failed to specify the exact amount in question.
