The price of high-octane gasoline A98 exceeds BGN 3/litre

High-octane gasoline A98 with additives, which is offered in Lukoil gas stations, reached BGN 3.03/litre on Monday. At the same time, popular gasoline A95 reached a new absolute record again, after a litre of the fuel reached BGN 2.77. The price of diesel fuel went up to BGN 2.71 and is a step away from its record on March 21, when its price reached BGN 2.73.

The new record came after five consecutive fuel-price hikes for a month. Since Monday the price of gasoline and diesel went up by another BGN 0.04. The new fuel price hike is expected to affect the cost of transport and the prices of all goods.

In London a barrel of the European benchmark Brent sold for $114.37 – its highest level for 3 months and a half. The reason for the price hike of the commodity is rumours about an imminent military conflict between Iran and Israel, which threatens the security of future oil supplies from the Near East region, Reuters informs.

“Fuels are seasonal goods. Their prices shoot up in the summer and go down in the autumn. In September or October at the latest, the prices of fuels will surely drop,” Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov told Nova TV.

He added that the state does not have many mechanisms to regulate the prices of fuels. “We cannot do much in this respect – excises are set by the EU. This policy is tied to the common policy of the EU,” the minister explained.
