On Travel to be stripped of its license

The travel agency On Travel will be stripped of its license, Ivo Marinov, Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism announced on Thursday. The measure will follow a written suggestion to his boss, Minister Delyan Dobrev, citing the latest problems of On Travel clients as the main reason for the penalty.

On Travel has a BGN 1.4 mln insurance policy, which will have to cover lodging and travelling expenses incurred by a group of tourists in Turkey, according to Minister Delyan Dobrev. The situation with the 40 Bulgarians left stranded in the Marmaris resort has been resolved. They will stay in Turkey till Saturday, with On Travel's Turkish counterpart paying for their stay and return to Bulgaria, said Ivo Marinov, Deputy Minister for Tourism.

On Travel, which only a few days ago failed to take care of another group of tourists in Spain, this time left 40 Bulgarians stranded in the Turkish resort Marmaris. They were told by the Blue Bay hotel management to leave by noon on Thursday or be forcefully removed by the police. The group arrived last Saturday only to find out that their stay was yet to be paid for. The Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism was informed of the situation on Wednesday around 9.30 pm.

We were unable to reach On Travel for comment as all phone lines of the firm are disconnected, including the emergency number left on its official site.
