Commercial messages to be toned down

MP Zahari Georgiev is pushing for the volume of commercial messages to be equalised with those of all other radio and TV programmes, according to Darik radio. Amendments to the Consumer Protection Act will be put to a vote in Parliament and results are expected as soon as this week, Georgiev said.

If approved, the bill will also lead to changes in the way contracts with mobile operators are extended. All expired contracts will be extended indefinitely so that clients can end them with a one-month notice. Another amendment will require cable operators to notify their clients of every alteration in their programme packages by signing a new annex to the contract.

According to Georgiev, the volume of commercial messages on the radio or TV is normally up to two times higher in comparison to all other programmes. A similar directive is being prepared in the European Parliament, but it is not yet clear when a final decision will be made that will affect the whole EU, Georgiev said.
