Tsvetanov: Paedophilia, identity theft and the syphoning of bank accounts are the main threats on the Internet

Paedophilia, identity theft and the syphoning bank of accounts are the major threats in the network, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov said at the Southeast European Regional Forum on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime.

We need to take care of children and protect them from what might happen to them, Tsvetanov said. He also thanked the America for Bulgaria Foundation for the conference held in 2011.

Cybercrime risks are real. Even state secrets are being stolen via the Internet, the threats are very real today, commented United States ambassador to Bulgaria Marcie Ries.

We are thinking about the dangers to the national systems caused by terrorist groups, because the consequences can be significant in terms of transport, communications and even the functioning of the entire country. We are fighting cyber threats in the U.S.., but it is important to have an international consensus in order to ensure security against cybercrime. It is not the responsibility of a single country. Collaboration on the measures we are taking is the best way to provide security, Marcie Ries added.
