Some 10% of construction waste to be used for roads

Some 10% of construction waste will be recycled in road construction, while another 20% will go for the erection of new buildings under a new regulation for waste management approved by the Government. Road repairs and overhauls will make use of 3% of scrapped construction materials; 8% will go for construction, reconstruction and overhaul of other infrastructure sites, and backfills will utilise 10% of treated construction waste.

With the new rule, assignors of construction and installation works, as well as building and/or demolishing contracts will be obligated to use selective disposal of waste products. The idea is to ensure subsequent recycling and use in order to meet the Government target for recycling 70% of construction waste materials by 2020.

To achieve construction waste usage and recycling requirements stipulated by the law, assignors of construction projects will have to observe the following instructions – preserve main components when dissembling buildings; arrange waste materials into separate groups during construction and repairs; recycle concrete, ceramics, asphalt and mineral components by cracking and fracturing installations; ensure recycling/utilisation of metal, paper, plastic, wood and glass; prepare a waste management plan.
