Borissov entrusts BAS experts with the task of defining the concept of "good neighbourly relations with Macedonia"

"We have asked experts at the Bulgarian Academy of Science (BAS) to explain in detail what the concept of good neighbourly relations with Macedonia involves, so that we can rely on a clear definition when we vote in Brussels and when I, the President or other officials make statements," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said.

The Government has given the green light for the implementation of the new operational programme for science and education under the country's agreement with the European Union for the 2014-20 programming period. In the presence of academician Stefan Vodenicharov, the new President of BAS, and the rectors of nine universities, Cabinet ministers voted the extended list of operational programmes. "We are grateful for your acknowledgement of the fact that Programme 2020 could not do without science and innovation. You can rely on Bulgarian scientists to deliver results soon," Vodenicharov said. The rector of the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Prof. Ivan Ilchev, said that, in the last few days, journalists have bombarded him with questions why Bulgaria doesn't have a university ranked in the Top 500 in the world. He hopes that, after the approval of Programme 2020, the country will have its representative among the most elite schools in the world and that this would guarantee an ever-growing quality of education.
