Bulgaria tourism minister: We need to deepen cooperation as global world poses global problems
Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova took Friday part in a conference titled Sustainability of Tourism and Security Development in the Danube Region in the city of Ruse, FOCUS News Agency reported.“Bulgaria has turned for a second year in a row into a centre for generating ideas and discussing topics connected with the development of the Danube region,” the minister said, speaking at the event.
“Last year, we organised an event of a large scale titled Sustainable Tourism through Cooperation with EU Funds and Investments, over which UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai came to our country. We now have the honour of having European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu here, which I would like to thank her for,” Minister Angelkova noted.
According to her, this shows a very high opinion of the importance of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region for the EU and also for Bulgaria’s place in it.
Nikolina Angelkova did not miss to mention the efforts of the conference hosts.
“Due to the municipality, the district administration, and MPs from the region, Ruse comes to establish itself as one of the important centres of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. The Bulgarian-Romanian Technical Secretariat under Priority Axis 3 of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region – encouragement of culture, tourism, and contacts between people which the two countries are co-coordinators of - is based here. The centre will be used by all EU Strategy for the Danube Region countries and this will help us to focus even more on the significance of tourism in the region as well as to speed up work on the creation of a “Danube” brand and on joint tourist products,” Minister Angelkova remarked.
The official said further the current international events showed how dependent tourism was on security and everyone was faced with a common danger that exceeded the national potential to counteract it.
“That is why we need to deepen our cooperation as the global world poses global problems we cannot tackle single-handedly,” the government member stressed.
