President Rosen Plevneliev: Bulgarian energy sector worst affected by corruption

“The conquering of the state on behalf of oligarchic interests has its beyond-national dimension, which is directly connected with the security of the country. Following the corruption thread discloses before the Bulgarian society the real conspiracy between external interests and criminal schemes of the Bulgarian business circles. The Bulgarian energy sector is the worst affected.”
This is what Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said in his statement within the 12th public-political forum on fight against corruption themed State’s Conquering and Resistance to the Administrative and Political Corruption in Bulgaria, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
President Plevneliev’s statement was on the topic Anti-corruption Policies against State’s Conquering.
“The terms “energy security” and “free energy market” themselves are the counterpoint of the energy dependence, which over a long period of time – more than 25 years, not to mention the 45 years before [the transition period] – used to be major characteristic of the Bulgarian-Russian economic interests,” the Bulgarian Head of State commented further.
According to him, Bulgaria could not have been a sovereign country without the liberalisation of the energy market.
“We achieved much in this sector but let us not forget where we used to be and what the dangers are because nowadays in Bulgaria every citizen should pay for the projects with the grand slam, which were nipped in the bud, with huge corruption charge in each one of them,” Mr Plevneliev remarked.
