Betina Zhoteva: EU Presidency is an opportunity for Bulgaria to be European leader

 “EU Presidency is an opportunity for Bulgaria to show what it can, what it needs, and most of all – to be a European leader.”
This is what Betina Zhoteva, member of the Council of Electronic Media (CEM), former spokesperson of the Interior Ministry and journalist, said speaking for Radio FOCUS.
In her words, not only can Bulgaria raise priority issues that are important for the country but it can also show that it understands the European priorities and can bring them to the frontline.
“The important sectors for Bulgaria are the IT, cultural industry, tourism. These are top priorities for us and we can include them in the agenda. 
In the first place we should be remembered with our ability to organise well the work of the European institutions. How we are going to present our country during the EU presidency depends not as much on the communication strategy, which is highly important of course, but rather on showing that we can prioritise what is important for us and show it. Europe’s entire diplomatic and political smart set will be visiting Sofia regularly,” Ms Zhoteva explained. 
Yesterday it was officially announced that Bulgaria would assume the rotating EU Presidency as of January 1, 2018.
