Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova met with European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu

2018 is expected to be declared a European Year of Cultural Heritage, which may be also used for promotion of tourism. The issue was discussed between Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova and Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu during a meeting held in Strasbourg, the press office of the Ministry of Tourism announced.
The two officials commented that this would be a chance for strengthening the cooperation and popularisation of tourism, both between the countries in the EU and within the Strategy for the Danube Region.
Minister Angelkova informed EU Commissioner Crețu that Bulgaria was already developing joint tourist products with several countries under the strategy.
“We have already taken concrete steps and we partner with several countries, as the work with Romania is at an advanced stage,” Minister Angelkova remarked.
The two countries will hold joint events that promote the Bulgarian and Romanian traditions at distance markets and encourage the mutual tourist flow.
In reference to this, Ms Angelkova pointed at the positive results reported – nearly 680,000 Romanian tourists have visited Bulgaria in the first seven months of 2016, which is a nearly 18% growth.
“Romania tops the chart in terms of most numerous foreign tourists in Bulgaria, while several other countries under the Strategy for the Danube Region, such as Germany, Serbia, and Austria, are very important, too,” Nikolina Angelkova commented further.
Corina Crețu, on the other hand, stressed that the joint actions in the field of tourism and culture were very important for the entire Danube region and were crucial for strengthening the partnership.
She added that the conference held in the Bulgarian town of Ruse in June was a good example of successful cooperation within the Strategy and contributed to the outlining of concrete steps for tourism development in the entire region.
