One of Bulgarian ministry of tourism’s major priorities is to set rules and order for SPA sector’s functioning

“One of the major priorities of the Ministry of Tourism is to set the rules and order of the functioning of the SPA sector.”
This is what Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova said speaking in the town of Sapareva Banya, Radio FOCUS reporter said.
Minister’s visit to the town is part of a series of meetings within the country with the purpose to popularise tourism in Bulgaria.
“An important step towards this was the adoption of the regulation on the conditions and order for the certification for “balneological (medical SPA) centre”, “SPA centre”, “wellness centre”, and “thalassotherapy centre”, within the Tourism Act. This is also the first by-law act of this type and it introduces minimum legal requirements that the specialised centres should meet,” Ms Angelkova explained.
In her words, the measure will put an end to the vicious practice for every hotel with a pool or a sauna to call itself a SPA centre and respectively fail to meet tourists’ expectations.
“The process of certification of all balneological and SPA centres on the territory of the country under the new rules has started. 107 applications from specialised sites have been received so far,” the minister added.
“The certification is voluntary but only the inspected sites will be allowed to use the abbreviation SPA and will be listed in the national register,” Nikolina Angelkova commented further.
