Borissov: The Ministry of Interior and SANS have not used SIMs on the son of Vanyo Tanov

“I checked and found out that SIMs (Special Investigation Means) were not applied on the son of Vanyo Tanov, neither by the Ministry of Interior, nor by the State Agency for National Security,” said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during  parliamentary control yesterday, answering the question of MP from Coalition for Bulgaria, Peter Kurumbashev. The MP from the left-wing party asked whether the Intelligence Service had a psychological profile of the son of the Head of the Customs Agency, and whether there was a plan to drop drugs in his home and his car.

“Mr. Tanev informed me that, according to his reliable source, SIMs had been applied on his son - he did not know whether the Ministry of Interior or the National Security Agency were in charge of this,“ Borissov said. He explained that at the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the Director of SANS the question of Tanov’s dismissal from the position Director of the Customs Agency had not been discussed.

“And, as you see, Tanov is in office until this day,” concluded the Prime Minister. Answering a cue on the part of MP Kurumbashev, Borissov said that he will not demand the resignation of the Minister of Interior because MI and SANS work on instructions and written documents, in compliance with current legislation and evidence of illegal action against the son of Vanyo Tanov, and such have not been discovered. It is not surprising that Tanov has sought assistance from the Prime Minister rather than that of the Minister of Interior, not to speak of the fact that he is a subordinate of Deputy Prime Minister Simeon Djankov.
