Salaries Should Relate Directly to Quantity of Labour

According to a survey of the Bulgarian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), salaries should be
related directly to the quantity of labour. The poll was
conducted on the occasion of the salary raise in 2011 suggested
by the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Totyu Mladenov in
two variants - by 11.07 or by 11.67 per cent.

A total of 15.6 per cent of employers accept the idea, but think
to implement it by staff cuts, while 14.3 per cent would not
dismiss anyone. Some 70 per cent do not agree that salaries
should be raised.

Employee opinions, in turn, are nearly fifty-fifty on the matter
whether salary raises should be related to staff cuts - 51.22
per cent favour reduction of staff.

Asked whether if there is an administrative increase of the
minimum salary employers are ready to raise the salaries of all
employees by the same proportion, a mere 10.4 per cent of the
respondents gave a positive answer. The rest are against. In the
case of employed, the opinions in terms of percentage are the
opposite.

Some 40 per cent of the employers are of the opinion that
unemployment will increase if salaries are raised and over 53
per cent think companies will shift from the official to
informal economy.

A total of 78 per cent of employers accept to introduce flexible
working hours for employees with hourly wages. The workers who
accept this approach are by some 10 per cent more.
