The price of debt purchasing can reach up to 30% of the value

“Debt collecting companies charge an average price in the range of 2% and 30% of the liability value. The final amount depends on the type of services rendered, the products, the customers and the parameters of the company which sells its debt,” said Raina Mitkova-Todorova, Executive Director of EOS Matrix Ltd during a discussion on the operation of debt collecting agencies yesterday.

Companies in the industry explained that the fact whether the liability is sold in a package or as a single claim is most decisive for the price. A package means credits grouped together on the basis of a particular characteristic.

With the increase in the volume of non-performing loans and the deepening of the crisis, more and more companies have been classified as "incorrect payers”. According to experts, companies bought debts last year and will start to collect these actively this year. The initiation of law suits against debtors is one of the foreseen measures.

During the event, the agencies for debt collection united around the idea of drafting a law aimed at regulating their activities and the need to set up a public register of natural persons and legal entities – “incorrect payers”. According to Todorova, the lack of such a register is harmful for the entire economy. Such a platform will facilitate all payments and reveal disloyal customers. She explained that the United States had even regulated the hours at which debtors can be sought.
