The dismissed NSSI manager, Hristina Mitreva: I was kept in political isolation for two months

GERB demanded not four, but seventeen party cadres to head the territorial divisions of the NSSI (National Social Security Institute). The political pressure was exerted by the local party structures, announced yesterday at a press conference Hristina Mitreva less than an hour after her resignation as NSSI head was accepted with the positive vote of the MPs from GERB, from 'Ataka' party and of a few lawmakers from the Blue Coalition. Around 10:30 hrs yesterday, Parliament dismissed Hristina Mitreva by 93 votes in favour, 34 against and 10 abstentions.

In her brief and emotional statement, Mitreva once again declared that she did not accept the accusations of mismanagement and fraudulent misleading in the drafting of the NSSI budget in its revenue part. She reproached politicians that she was never admitted to a parliamentary hearing on the problems of the NSSI management – neither with the Labour and Social Policy Committee, nor with political parties.
In the discussion before the vote, left-wing MPs insisted that Mitreva remain in office and withdraw her resignation. "I will not support your resignation because you are an outstanding professional who did not deserve such derogatory treatment by the ruling government," addressed Hristina Mitreva the Chairman of the Committee on Labour and Social Policy, Dragomir Stoynev.

"The NSSI head is not entitled to make political decisions, she must implement the budget adopted by Parliament, which was drafted under the instructions of the Minister of Finance," explained the lawmaker Hassan Ademov. He announced that the MRF (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) will vote against Mitreva's dismissal.

Blue Coalition Co-Chair, Ivan Kostov, supported Mitreva's dismissal because her resignation testified that Parliament had been misled at to her ability to manage NSSI, while she demonstrated that she depended only on GERB's political will. GERB MPs did not take the floor during the discussion.

In front of her colleagues and journalists, the former NSSI head announced that great pressure had been exerted on her for the appointment of people with insufficient training, particularly in the first months after her election as NSSI head. Nevertheless, she organised fair competitions in which only four GERB candidates performed well and won the competition for vacant positions.

Hristina Mitreva repeated her statement delivered from the National Assembly's rostrum: "For more than two months, I was kept in political isolation by the two main Ministries of Finance and of Labour and Social Policy, which are cooperating with the NSSI. I was told that if I fail to submit my resignation, the pressure exerted upon me will continue. "
