Varna and Burgas Airports expect an increase in charter flights in the summer

The airports in Varna and Burgas expect an increase in flights, including charter flights, during the summer season. According to estimates of the tourism industry, the number of holiday-makers and the revenues in the sector will be 10-15% higher. The biggest increase of between 10-15% is expected to come from Russia and Scandinavian countries. Burgas Airport expects some 5-7% growth, while Varna Airport will maintain the 2010 level. The decrease in the number of British vacationers will be compensated by the growth in the number of Russian guests.

“This year, the visits of Russian citizens to our country register an unprecedented growth,” Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov, announced yesterday. Last year, Bulgaria was visited by 600,000 foreigners. The forecasts for 2011 stand at 800,000, including guests from third countries. The number of issued visas by May 15, 2011 was up by 27%, compared to the same period of 2010. The Bulgarian Consulate in Odessa reported a 115% rise in the applications for visas. The Government has allocated an additional BGN 1.56 mln for printing visa stickers in order to ensure the normal operation of consular offices.

On May 24, Bulgaria participated with a stall at IMEX, the world’s top business tourism exhibition, in Frankfurt, Germany, announced the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism.
